Black Krim 75-80 days. A unique purple-black medium beefsteak variety, with green shoulders when ripe. A very unique flavour – often described as “dusky” or “smoky”, but certainly excellent. Originating on the Isle of Krymsk on the Black Sea in Russia. Be sure not to harvest them too late, as they will disintegrate if overripe!

Brandywine 85 days. Large deep pink fruit. The most famous heirloom tomato renowned for its great taste. The fruit are almost solid with little juice so they’re perfect for slicing. A potato leaf first introduced in the 1800’s. Indeterminate.

Burpee’s Longkeeper 78 days. If you would like to have your own homegrown tomatoes through the fall and early winter, this is the variety for you! Gather the partially ripe fruits before the first frost, and store in a single layer in a cool place inside, without touching each other. The skin will turn a golden orange when ripe. One of the best winter storage tomatoes!

Caspian Pink 80 days. Really large slicing tomatoes, growing on tall indeterminate vines requiring support. Skin is pinkish-red. A sweet, meaty heirloom with Russian origins.

Cherokee Purple 77 days. A unique, dusky, mahogany-purple coloured beefsteak. Discovered in 1993, and now one of the most renowned of the “black” tomatoes for its outstanding flavor and texture. Originally from Tennessee, and alleged to originate with the Cherokee nation in that region.

Cosmonaut Volkov 72 days. A much cherished Ukranian heirloom known for its huge 1-2 pound fruits. Heavy producer even in cool northern conditions. Perfect for BLT’s and sandwiches! Named after a very famous Russian cosmonaut who died in service of his country. Round, slightly flattened fruits are deep red with some green on the shoulders. An exquisite heirloom variety!

Dufresne Savignac Mid season. Also known as Dufresne or simply Savignac. A true heritage beefsteak variety from the Joliette region of Québec. Medium sized, rose-red round fruits that are sweet and juicy. Named after Frère Armand Savignac who acquired it from Raymond Dufresne in the 1930’s.

German Striped 70 days. Originally acquired through a member seed exchange. Very productive and uniquely disease resistant cultivar, yielding many 8 – 12 ounce, always unblemished fruit. Small orange flecks on a background of bright red skin. Very dependable under variable conditions – one of our favourites. Not to be confused with Striped German – a different variety!

Mennonite Orange 80 days. A flavourful and striking beefsteak-type field tomato. From Old Order Mennonites in Pennsylvania. Brought to Canada in 1910.

President Garfield 80 days. This tomato was first offered in Danish seed catalogs in 1884, three years after the assassination of the American president. Flattish and multi lobed fruit shape. One of the first named varieties of tomatoes. Tomatoes were once called simply “Love Apples”!

Rose de Berne 75 days. Sometimes called the Brandywine of Europe, this lovely Swiss heirloom is named after Bern, Switzerland and is a heavy producer of lots of large, thin skinned globe-shaped pink fruits weighing up to a half pound. Well known in France, Germany and Switzerland for incomparable flavour among big beefsteak varieties. Well adapted to northern temperate production.

Striped Cavern 80 days. Beautiful bell pepper-shaped tomatoes are ideal for stuffing or grilling. Abundant 8 ounce red fruits striped with orange-red. Will keep for up to 4 weeks in the refrigerator.

Weisnicht's Ukrainian 80 days. A family heirloom variety from Wisconsin, this pink-fruited beefsteak is one of the tastiest you can grow, even though it is not yet well known. Ranked first in a taste test of over 43 varieties at Fedco Seeds in Maine in 2004. Plants have potato leaf foliage.
